XYLAZINE

Some Jurisdictions that test urine for all substances are now reporting that the referenced substance,

XYLAZINE has been found in urine samples that also contain FENTANYL.

So what’s the big deal?  Users already know that they cannot conduct any detailed chemical analysis, they know that they are self-administering a “cocktail” of substances.

The “big deal” is this: XYLAZINE is an un-controlled horse tranquilizer.  When people believe that they are knowingly self-administering Fentanyl in order to obtain their “low,” (slowed respiration & heart rate), they are increasingly adding an additional substance that also slows respiration and heart rate.

In the event of a suspected xylazine overdose, experts recommend giving the opioid overdose reversal medication naloxone because xylazine is frequently combined with opioids.9 However, because xylazine is not an opioid, naloxone does not address the impact of xylazine on breathing.1,3,8 Because of this, experts are concerned that a growing prevalence of xylazine in the illicit opioid supply may render naloxone less effective for some overdoses.1,2,10 Emergency medical services should always be alerted to a suspected overdose. Since XYLAZINE is not an opioid, its action of slowing respiration and heart rate is not affected by Narcan/Naloxone.

Unwitting users of what they believe is Fentanyl may also be self-administering Xylazine which also can take their “low” to death.

In an old post, I published the story by British authorities to offer free drug testing at concerts with all criminal consequences being suspended.  Concert goers could provide a sample of the cocktail they planned to self-administer so chemists could determine the harm that could befall the user. No one confiscated the substances and an accurate chemical analysis was given to the potential user who purchased the “cocktail” from a stranger.
